Oven-Baked Corn Dogs

Equipment

  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Cutting Board
  • Knife
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Baking Sheet
  • Cooling rack
  • Oven mitts
  • Oven
  • Spoon (for stirring)
  • Forks (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1 box corn muffin mix
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 green onion finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk plus 2 tbsp
  • 1/4 stick butter (2 tbsp), melted
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1 dash hot sauce such as Tabasco or Franks Red Hot, optional
  • 4 jumbo Turkey hot dogs
  • ketchup optional
  • mustard optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  • In a shallow dish, combine muffin mix with flour. Mix to incorporate.
  • In a small mixing bowl, whisk together milk, eggs and melted butter.
  • Combine the wet ingredients with the dry and blend.
  • Season the batter with chili powder, cumin, hot sauce and green onions (the batter will be thick and sticky like biscuit dough).
  • Place a hot dog in the batter (or use two forks to coat), and submerge it to completely coat the hot dog.
  • Remove coated hot dog and place a non-stick baking sheet. If there are any spots where the batter hasn’t stuck, scoop up more batter with a small spoon or your fingers and pat it into place. Don’t cover the hot dogs with more than a 1/2 inch of batter or it will just slide off.
  • Repeat until all hot dogs are covered and placed on the baking sheet.
  • Bake 12-15 minutes or until deeply brown all over.
  • Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes.
  • Serve with your favorite hot dog condiments!
  • Enjoy!

Notes

Take It Down A Notch – This recipe should be easy enough for even a PreK or young Tiny Chef to accomplish. You let your Tiny Chef use safety scissors to chop the green onions to make it safer.Kick It Up A Notch – Although fun, this recipe won’t be very challenging for an older Tiny Chef, but leaves you with extra time to make another recipe! Try making a homemade aioli or honey mustard dip!
